"Watching Spring Unfold"

When things are still cool and the higher elevation rides are snowy, I take the chance to ride my road bike along the east and west county back roads from Winthrop to Carlton. These roads are off-the-beaten path rides along the Methow River and are beautiful spots to watch spring unfold. The flowers that are in bloom in Winthrop can be so different than what you see in the lower valley.

For those early season rides, I like to wear Pearl Izumi Extremity Warmers -- for the arms, knees or full legs, depending on conditions. They're a great way to layer without carrying a lot of bulk, and can be easily shed as the day or the rider warms up.
